Do foot detox baths really work?

Updated: Feb 1

I was never a big fan of detoxing because I thought our bodies could handle the job on their own. It was only this past year of learning I had five different heavy metal poisonings and four mold toxins despite living an organic lifestyle for a decade, that I realized there are certain circumstances when our liver alone is not enough! Over the past few months I keep seeing these photos on social media and Pinterest of before and after an ionic foot bath. They all look a lot like this:

Curiosity killed the cat and I decided to buy a foot bath last week. As you can see on the video below, my water did not turn crazy colors but I did get a side effect of smiling and feeling a little spring in my step. I thought I would use this post to help supplement the video so you can understand why I chose the ingredients in the foot bath.

My Recipe:

1/4 cup Epsom Salts

1/4 cup Sea Salt

1/2 cup Baking Soda 1 DoTERRA Zendocrine Capsule

3 drops DoTERRA Lemon Essential Oil

3 drops DoTERRA Cilantro Essential Oil

The reason I use the DoTERRA brand is because it is Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. Here are the tests doTERRA uses to ensure essential oil purity:

  1. Organoleptic testing

  2. Microbial testing

  3. Gas chromatography

  4. Mass spectrometry

  5. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)

  6. Chirality testingIsotopic analysis

  7. Heavy metal testing

I know there are other high quality essential oil brands but this is the only one I have found that tests for heavy metals and that is a super important factor for me to pay attention to if I want to get healthy. I think we all need to find the cleanest and purest products possible if we want to prevent future health issues.

The simple ingredients in my recipe have a plethora of benefits so I am going to try to stick with just the top five benefits of each.

Epsom Salts

  1. The sulfates in Epsom salt flush toxins out of the body.

  2. Magnesium levels naturally increase as you soak causing relaxed muscles and reduced stress levels.

  3. The magnesium levels also reduce inflammation resulting in less pain and cramps.

  4. It regulates blood sugar, lowering the risk of diabetes and improves energy levels.

  5. Improves circulation which can help reduce irregular heart beats, prevents hardening of the arteries, reduces blood clots, and lowers blood pressure.

Sea Salt

  1. Naturally improves skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

  2. Trace elements and minerals are absorbed through our largest organ, SKIN!

  3. Exfoliation with sea salts helps remove dead skin particles, tone up the skin tissues, encourage peripheral blood circulation, and also promote skin renewal.

  4. Helps relax the muscles, and relieves the soreness and pain in your aching feet.

  5. Sea salt baths have a calming and soporific effect, thus helping in inducing profound and rejuvenating sleep.

Baking Soda

  1. Baking soda helps balance the pH of the skin, thereby getting rid of the rashes.

  2. Baking soda, when added to your bath can neutralize the acidity and create a pH balance. This helps in drawing out the lactic acid from the muscles, thus providing relief from muscle pain and soreness.

  3. It detoxifies the skin, destroys the harmful micro-organisms, and prevents further eczema breakouts.

  4. The bath can help rid your body of toxins and promote better absorption and utilization of nutrients. This, in turn, increases your metabolic activities and burns more fat.

  5. Baking soda provides a cleansing and detoxifying effect.

Zendocrine Capsules

  1. Supports the body's natural ability to rid itself of unwanted substances.

  2. Supports the healthy cleansing and filtering functions of the liver, kidneys, colon, lungs, and skin.

  3. Zendocrine also delivers powerful antioxidants that can fight against free radicals.* Free radicals can slow down the body’s systems, leaving a heavy and weighted feeling.

  4. Not only does Zendocrine help with healthy liver function, it also assists with the function of many other organs.

  5. Zendocrine supports the healthy cleansing and filtering functions of the kidneys, lungs, skin, colon, and liver.

Lemon Essential Oil

  1. Lemon oil can help exfoliate your skin. When incorporated into your skincare routine, Lemon oil can help give your complexion a refreshed, healthy looking glow.

  2. Is known for it's ability to cleanse and detoxify.

  3. Lemon oil can also stimulates the immune system.

  4. Lemon essential oil is anti-microbial so it helps kill bacteria and viruses.

  5. Has uplifting properties to boost mood and can provide mental clarity.

Cilantro Essential Oil

  1. Cilantro essential oil cleans the blood of toxins and thus acts as a blood purifier. It helps to remove regular toxins like uric acid, heavy metals and certain compounds and hormones produced by the body itself, as well as other foreign toxins which get into the blood accidentally.

  2. It arouses and increases the libido, as well as cures temporary impotency, frigidity of both males and females, erectile dysfunctions, and general loss of interest in sex.

  3. Certain terpenes make coriander oil an analgesic, which means any agent that reduces pain. This oil has been found to be effective for curing toothaches, headaches, and other pain of the joints and muscles, as well as those resulting from injuries or collisions. It reduces pain by desensitizing the affected area.

  4. It stimulates hormone and enzymes secretions, digestion, excretion, brain functions and nervous system activity.

  5. It inhibits the growth of fungus and helps to treat fungal infections.

There you have it! I'm wondering if the Zendocrine oil blend was the reason I was feeling a little pep in my step... But all the ingredients in this foot soak had common benefits of detoxifying the body and boosting the mood so all in all, I think it is an excellent recipe that can benefit many people! I hope you try it out some time.
